It is important to submit to the authority of God in order to achieve peace and balance in life. The failure to do so often results in personal suffering. God knows what is good and wants the best for us.
It is more than a matter of saying we follow God, we must also submit ourselves to the Lord by doing His will. A Christian must follow Church teaching because the Church is the authority of God. It is a mistake to think we are our own authority, this is a divergance from Truth.
