Rejoice and Be Glad

Today's Gospel encapsulates Christian suffering.  Jesus tells His followers to "rejoice and be glad" when they are persecuted. Why?  Because their "reward in heaven will be great".

Suffering in life is not the result of a punishing God, but rather freedom.  Since without free will there is no true love, love is the root of suffering.

Jesus epitomizes this with his own passion.  He shows us that through suffering love springs eternal.  When we patiently and compassionately endure our own suffering we arrive at an understanding of true love.
