It's the only way to overcome evil. It is also a command of Christ.
Remember that true love is not a feeling or emotion, it is a decision. Love also correlates with forgiveness. We must decide to forgive those who hurt us, not to hold on to grudges.
Through grace this type of love is possible. If we accept the love and forgiveness of God (through Confession) and receive Him in Communion on a regular basis Christ will then live in our hearts enabling love (rather then resentment) to reign in our lives.
